Welcome to LAFCO's Information Page for the Proposed Town of Alamo Incorporation!

On November 5, 2007, LAFCO received a petition and application for the proposed incorporation of the Town of Alamo. The petition was signed by over 25% of the registered voters in the area.  On November 14, the petition signatures were found to be sufficient by the Contra Costa County Elections office. LAFCO is the agency within Contra Costa County responsible for reviewing city and district boundary changes, including incorporations of new cities.

The incorporation process typically takes approximately 12-18 months.  If approved by LAFCO, the question of incorporation will be placed on the ballot.  A simple majority vote is required for final approval of the incorporation.

On August 7, 2008, the Alamo Community Foundation hosted a community meeting at the Creekside Community Church in Alamo.  LAFCO staff and its consultants presented information and responded to questions.

On September 18, 2008 LAFCO conducted a public hearing on the proposed incorporation of Alamo. Following a nearly five-hour hearing, LAFCO conditionally approved the incorporation subject to various terms and conditions and confirmation of the voters.

On October 21, 2008, LAFCO conducted a public hearing to hear requests for reconsideration.  Following the hearing, the Commission denied the request for reconsideration and affirmed its approval of the proposed incorporation subject to confirmation of the voters.

On October 28, 2008, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 2008/699 calling an election for March 3, 2009 to confirm the incorporation by a majority of the voters in Alamo.  To be held in conjunction with the question of incorporation, will be election of five city council members, to be elected at large from throughout the proposed Town of Alamo.  For information regarding the election, please contact Sue Olvera with County Elections at 925-335-7806.
